TAILOR - MADE.

GOVERNMENT'S ORDER. SPECIFIC DEFINITION. [BI TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Thursday. An Order-in-Council furnishes a specific definition for tho guidance of tho public and the tailoring trade of tho term "tailormade," which has been the subject of several deputations to the Minister for Labour. The regulations will come into operation on March 1. It is provided that every person commits an offence who sells or agrees or offers to sell as hand-made or hand-tailored any garment that is not wholly made by hand, and otherwise made in accordance with the requirements of the regulations, or who sells, or agrees, or offers to sell as tailor-made any garment that is not tailor-made. If any person sells, or agrees, or offers' to sell,' or advertises for sale both tailormade garments and other garments made to measure, he shall, before selling or agreeing to sell any garment made to measure that is not tailor-made, inform tho purchaser that the garment is not tailormade ; and in any proceedings for a breach of this regulation, it shall lie on the seller to prove that he so informed tho purchaser. Tailor-made means made to measure by hand to an extent and in accordance with conditions prescribed. Garment means a man's or boy's coat, trousers, breeches, vest, or overcoat, other than an oilskin overcoat. The minimum amount of work to be performed by hand and the special conditions for making are also specified.
