SALMON RUNNING.
WAIMAKARIR! CATCHES. Quinnat salmon started to run in the Waimakariri River on Monday, says a Christchurch paper, a week earlier than last year, and five good fish were caught at the mouth. The weights of tho catch were? —One each of 201b., 181b. and 121b., and two of 101b. A fair number of fishermen was at the river, and although they did not come prepared for salmon, they took advantage of the run they saw had begun. The five fish were caught from boats off Dunn's Bank, and they wcro all in excellent condition.
