RAILWAYS IN NORTH.
A WHANGAREI COMPLAINT. ABOLITION OF DISTRICT OFFICE. [r.Y TELEG UAj/H.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WII A.N G ARE I. Thursday. Some days ago it, became known that it was "intended to abolish the Whangarei district railways office for the housing of which modern offices have not long been completed. The Chamber of Commerce discussed the matter with the result that a general expression of disapproval was evident. It was stated that Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P., had,forwarded a protest to tho Hon, J. G. Coates, The support of other Chambers of Commerce in North Auckland is to be sought in an effort to have the district manager and traffic manager retained in Whangarei. A petition is being circulated throughout North Auckland urging upon the Government the desirability of extending tho construction of tho North Auckland Main Trunk railway from tho railhead at liangiahua to Kaitaia. The Whangarei Chamber of Commerce has endorsed this proposal.
