PROPOSED WAIUKU CANAL.
WAIKATO TO MANUKAU. BUSINESS MEN'S INSPECTION. •Complete arrangements have now been made for the trip down the Waikato River and inspection of the proposed Waiuku Canal sito next Thursday. Tho tour is under the auspices of tho Auckland, Hamilton and Cambridge Chambers of Commerce, and it is expected that a large number of business men from each centre will make the trip. The object is to demonstrate the potentialities of the pfWaikato waterway and the opportunity presented by the Waiuku River 01 connecting the Waikato with the Manukau and the port of Onehunga. The trip down the river will be made on the stern-wheel steamer Manawai, which will have accommodation for 400 passengers. Refreshments will be provided on the vessel. Cambridge will be the starting-point at 5.30 a.m. on Thursday, and Waiuku will be reached at 3 p.m. After the inspection of the proposed canal route, visitors can return to Auckland by launch, via Onehunga, or by motoring to Pukekohe and taking the train. Cambridge and Hamilton residents will also return via Pukekohe. Aucklanders who intend making the trip should leave the city by the Rotorua express on the morning of Wednesday or by the Main Trunk express at 7.40 p.m. Motor-cars will connect with the latter train at Frankton to take the visitors on to Cambridge, arriving there at 11.30 p.m.
