SIZE OF RACE FIELDS.
REQUEST TO THE MINISTER TE KUiTI AND ROTORUA. A telegram was despatched to tho Hon. R. F. Bollard, Minister for Internal Affairs, by Mr. W. E. Parry, M.F., yesterday, protesting against the practice of allowing too many horses to run in any one race, and urgently requesting the Minister to remedy what is described as laxity on the part of those in control. The telegram states that at the Te Kuiti meeting 18 horses started in the Maiden Handicap, one more than the safety number, and 26 horses started in the Otorohanga Hack Handicap, three more than the safety number, while a defective barrier caused one jockey to be thrown. Twenty-seven horses had been accepted for in the Hot Springs Handicap to be run at Rotorua tomorrow. In view of the fact that seven jockeys were fatally injured last year the Minister is requested to take immediate action.
