CANTERBURY MARKETS. [BY TELEGRAPH.— association*.] CHRISTCHtRCH, Friday. . Growers are showing some anxiety to trade in wheat. In such cases they are prepared to accept 7s a bushel, but millers are not' yet buying onthis basis. They very much wish to, as price would ensure a good area being sown next season, but with the menace of Australian flour being dumped on to them they feel their hands tied. A last week's Quotation, from Melbourne was .£ls 12s 6d a. ton for .local consumption, and £13 15s for export. Millers are anxious to buy it if they only kjjew where they stood. Merchants, moreover* are standing right off. Under the present uncertainty they are not likely to sink njtonoy in wheat at 7a a bushel and hold it for a few months to make perhaps &d a bushel. A definite Government pronouncement in regard to imported flour would clear the way for operations in the coming crop. Tho forward oat market is dead and 3s 6d. fjO.b., s.i.. is the general quotation. It 13 certain that the province will be heavily supplied with Algerian oats if they are threshed. There is no< suggestion that white oats will be in such abundance. A few sales of new crop ryegrass have taken place at Ss 3d Lo.b., 8.1. Old stuff has been handled _at 5a 6d. Rust has got into the ryegrass in a number of districts. This may affcen the yields. Cocksfoot and clovers are not being discussed. The potato crops generally aro looking well, but a spell of warm dry weather is required to steady the growth of haulm and giv« the tubers a chance. Farmers would be prepared to sell at £4 on trucks for main crop, but £3 l£s is tho limit of offers, and this figure is too low for business, FEILDING STOCK SALE. [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] FEILDING. Friday. At the Feilding stock sale to-day a email erftry of sheep met with a ready sale. Tho first lino of store Eomnej lambs made their appearance and met with keen competition. They were knocked down at 24b 6d. Thero was a heavy yarding of cattle which were in good demand for all classes at recent rates.
