NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE.
DISTINCTIVE MARK NEEDED. TOURIST LEAGUE'S ADVOCACY. The value of a distinguishing mark for New Zealand produce for export was stressed at a meeting of the executive of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Tourist League yesterday. Mr. W. J. Broadfoot presided. It was resolved that the Department of Agriculture bo asked to give as much publicity as possible to the desirability of branding all New Zealand exports with , a mark that would be characteristic of the country, so taking advantage of a valuable means of advertising tho Dominion. It was suggested that a national competition for a suitable mark might be arranged. The feeling of the committee was that a map of Now Zealand would be a suitable and convenient brand. As illustrating the need for a distinguishing standardised trade mark for the Dominion's produce a member of the committee said that when he was in London on one occasion ho went to a storo to purchase some New Zealand butter, and despito the fact that New Zealand butter was on the counter he was told there was none in the store. When ho pointed out tho butter on the counter tho assistant said : "That is not New Zealand butter, it is colonial butter." In connection with the advertising of the Dominion, particularly from the tourist point of view, the committee passed a resolution to the effect that tho Government bo urged to obtain a more prominent site in Sydney for the tourist bureau, with space for window display which, even though small, would be of immense value in bringing the attractions and resources of the Dominion before the notice of Australians.
