EARTHQUAKE SHOCKS.
PEOPLE FLEE TO THE PARKS.
DISTURBANCE IN ARGENTINE. San. BUENOS AIRES, Deo. 16. Severe earthquake shocks were experienced at Mendoza, tho capital of tho State of that name, early last evening. The inhabitants fled to the parks in tho suburbs. Glass doors and windows were shattered, and many persons were injured when the crowds in tho cafes stampeded. Simultaneous shocks wero recorded in tha provinces of Tucuman and San Lui3.
The city of Mendoza is situated 95 miles south of San Juan, and 620 miles west by north of Buenos Aires. All its chief buildings wero destroyed by an earthquake in 1861. Its population numbers £0,000. The province of Tucuman is in the north-west of the Argentine Republic. San Luis is in tho centre of tho country between Mendoza and the southern half of Cordoba.
