There is a widespread expectancy regarding to-day's debate in the House of Commons on tariffs and preference arising out of the Liberals' amendment to the Address-in-Reply. The Parliamentary correspondent of the Daily Telegranh says there is reason to believe the Cabinet will enunciate a new plan, which, while satisfactory to the Dominions, will enable the Government to fulfil its election pledges not to increaso the cost of food.
It is also understood that tho bounties and subsidies will be ruled out. Ihe precise method will not be disclosed until the Prime Minister, Mr. Stanley Baldwin, speaks. All that can bo said is that Ministerial circles are confident the supporters of Imperial preference will regard tho scheme as sound and effective, and that it will pleaso the Dominions.
