HOLIDAY CARNIVAL.
PURDY TO MEET TROWERN.
The holiday carnival of the Northern Boxing Association, which is fixed for December 29 at tho Cown Hall, should provo specially attractive to boxing enthusiasts. Three contests ht-.vo been arranged, two professional, and cne amateur. Tho chief event will bo a 15-round lightweight bout for £150, between C. Purdy and R. Trowern, both of Auckland. Tho pair have excellent records, and the meeting should settle a long standing argument as to which is the bettcvr boxer in a lengthy contest. Purdy's brilliant performances as an amateur, and a, victory in his first engagement as a professional, entitle him to every respect. That his cleverness is undiminished he demonstrated in his victory over Brown, the professional featherweight champion, Trowern. who won the amateur light-weight championship of Auckland this year, has shown himself to bo we'll equipped for tho professional ranks. Ho is fast and aggressive, and possesses a convincing punch. The other professional contest will bo a feather-weight boul of 8 rounds, between C. McCarthy and .T. Whittome. Both have figured prominently in tho amateur ranks in Auckland, and have also shown good form in a fow professional engagements. The pair should be well matched. The amateur event will bo of G rounds between velter-weighta, N. McKnight. of Hamilton, and W. Walden, of Polmerston North. These boxers both competed in the New Zealand amateur championship tournament this year, and were defeated by the winner of tho welter division. Hay. of Napier. They are an aggressive pair, and are expected, to provide a particularly fast and interesting contest.
