GOVERNOR'S WELCOME.
PIPE BAND'S GREETINGS.
A hearty Scottish welcome was accorded to the Governor-General, Sif Charles Fergusson, shortly after his arrival at Government House, Wellington, by the Wellington Caledonian Society's Pipe Band, which marched to the Vic&Regal residence under Captain R. H. Nimmo, chief of the society. Typically Highland winter weather prevailed, but despite tho unpleasant conditions His Excellency came outside and stood in the rain for fully a quarter of au hour listening to the skirl of the pipes. After the first selection had been rendered by tho band, Governor-Gen-eal expressed to Captain Nimmo his appreciation of tho warm welcome extended to him by his brother Scots. Captain Nimmo was then presented to Lady Alice Fergusson and Miss Fergusson, who both expressed themselves as charmed with the Highland welcome.
