AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE

The tone of the Auckland sharemarket was unchanged yesterday, a steady demand being maintained for investment stocks. In Government Securities War Loan, 1938, had buyers at £97 7s 6d, sellers £97 15s. There was inquiry for the 1927 War Loan issue at £97 10s. Inscribed Stock, 1938, which sold on Thursday at £97 10s, was sought at £97 ss, sellers quoting £98. In local body debentures there was a salo of City of Auckland, 1939, at £95, and of Auckland Harbour Board, 5£ per cent., 1937, at £95. In banks New Zealands were agaiu available at 61s 6d, buyers offering 61s 3d. Buyers of Australasias increased their offers by Is to £13 9s, sellers £13 lis. Nationals of New Zealand had inquiry at £6 14s, an advance of 6d, no sellers quoting. There was a sale of New South Wales at £41, late buyers offering £40 12s 6d, sellers £41 ss. Union of Australia had buyers at £14, sellers again quoting £14 7s 6d. The new issue (fully paid) were quoted at £14. In insurance New Zealands again sold at 31s, late buyers offering 30s 9d, sellers 325. South British were sought at 44s 3d, an advance of 3d, no sellers quoting. In gas sellers of Aucklands were firm at 24s 6d, buyers advancing 3d to 24s 3d. The contributing issue had sale at 5s Bd, more wanted at 5s 7d, sellers 5s 9d. In shipping Hud-dart-I'arkers again hnd inquiry at 43s 6d, sellers 44s 3d. Northern Steamship again had buyers at 16s, sellers 16s 9d. In miscellaneous stocks Kempthorne Prossers Rights sold at 5s 6d, further buyers offering ss, sellers 5s 9d. New Zealand Farmers' Fertilisers were done at 86s ? more being wanted at 85s, no sellers quoting. In mining Waihis had buyers at 25s 7d, sellers 265. For Waihi Grand Junctions buyers firmed 2d, the closing quotations being, buyers Is lOd, sellers 2s 3d. Moanataiaris were steady, with buyers at Is 9d, sellers 2s 3d. The following sales took place:—Auckland Harbour Board 5£ per cent., 1937, £95; City of Auckland, 1939, Debentures, £95; Bank of New South Wales, £41; New Zealand Insurance, 31s; Auckland Gas (con.), 5s 8d: Kempthorne Prossers Rights, 5s 6d; New Zealand Farmers' Fertiliser, 86s.
