BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
"MARVELLOUS STOREHOUSE."
AUCKLAND MASTER'S VIEWS.
Referenco to the reluctance in New Zealand to adopt religious instruction in schools was made yesterday by Mr. Clifton-Smith, headmaster of King's School, Remnera, in his annual report. Mr. Clifton-Smith expressed himself in favour of tho Bible in schools.
"Even two and a-half years' residence in New Zealand has failed to reveal to me any reason whv this country has declared against tho use of the Bible in schools," said Mr. Clifton-Smith. "Scripture continues to rank with us as one of our most interesting subjects. Day by day wo'delve into that, marvellous storehouse of human endeavour shot through with divine purpose. As a schoolmaster carrying out the responsibilities for the development of the character of small boys, I rejoice that tho Great Book is available to me for mv purpose." The report further stated that written examinations at the school had revealed an accurato grasp of scriptural facts.
