AN ACCOUNTANT'S LAPSES.
TWO YEARS' REFORMATIVE.
BIGAMY AND OTHER CHARGES.
A well-dressed man, Alexander Robertson (Mr. Moody), aged 37, who had pleaded guilty to two charges, each of fraudulent conversion, theft and falsification of accounts, and one chargo of bigamy, was brought before Mr. '.justice Stringer for sentence in the Supremo Court yesterday. Mr. V. R. Meredith represented the Crown.
.Mr. Moody said he had been informed by tie solicitor in New Plymouth, who had instructed him that up to this series of offences prisoner had been a very capable accountant, but he commenced a ('jinking bout three months ac o , and had since been drinking considerably. Tie was arrester! in Auckland on a charge of obtaining £10 bv false pretences, and whs remanded. While on bail he was drinking heavily, and he himself to the police.
On the day he was liberated on bail he contracted the marriage with the second woman. Prisoner had told him his legal wife had intimated she would forgive him after he had served his period of imprisonment. Counsel made an appeal for leniency. His Honor said he saw nothing for it hut to sentence prisoner to a substantial term. He, ordered bin; to be detained for reformative treatment for a period not exceeding two years on all charges concurrently.
