PLATELAYER'S DEATH.
RESULT OF AN ACCIDENT.
CONDITION BECOMES SEPTIC.

The death occurred at the Whangarei Hospital; last evening of Patrick Greene, a platelayer, who had his leg broken on November 11 while he was assisting to remove rails and place them on the track at the Whangarei new station yard. An inquest was conducted by Mr. R. W. Tate, S.M. Thß evidence of others working in the same gang disclosed that decensed had his leg jambed between the rail and a sleeper. It was badly crushed above the ankle.
Dr. Hall, medical superintendent of the hospital, said thit when Greene was admitted his , general ""condition was good, but three days later he became restless, and his condition progressed to a resemblance of delirium tremens, although the evidence disclosed that deceased had been a ftsry moderate drinker. Later on the violence ceased, and the patient became drowsy and in a low state of delirium, in which' he remained until the time of death, which was due to.septic absorption. A verdict was Recorded in accordance with the medical evidence, a rider beiii£ added that no bliine was attachable to anyone. §.
