FEBRUARY SCHOOL HOURS.
QUESTION OF HALF - DAYS.
HEADMASTERS' DISCRETION,
The question of observing half-days in primary schools in February was discussed by the Primary Schools Committees' Association last evening. I
Mr. G. Brownlee said the Education Boara desired an expression of opinion from the association to guide it in coming to a decision. i Can you tell us what the weather is going to be in February ? asked one delegate. Several delegates asked if an extra week could not be added to the Christmas holidays. .. Mr. Brownlee replied that that was now late to arrange year. Other delegates thought the children in many districts were far better off in the schools than playing in the streets under a hot sun. It was resolved that it be left to the .discretion of the headmaster and chairman of school committees as to the course to be adopted.
