NORTH SHORE PROPOSAL.
CONSIDERATION OF A SITE.
The meitter of a site for the proposed grammar school at North Shore depends upon the recommendation of the Auckland Grammar School Board, which, at its meeting yesterday, considered in committee an offer of an area - of five acres in the neighbourhood of Belmont. On the board resuming in open meeting, it was reported it had decided that five acres was insufficient for the purpose in view, and that 10 or 12 acres, capable of being levelled without great expense, would he required. Further, it was stated the board had under consideration an offer of another site.
The scheme which the Minister for Education has in contemplation requires provision for about 300 scholars. At the meeting of the Devonport Borough Council last evening a letter was received from the Waitemata Chamber of Commerce stating that a grammar school at. Takapuna would not serve the best interests ol the North Shore boroughs. It was submitted that at least 75 per cent, of the pupils would bo drawn from Devonport, consequently a school situated at least 4£ miles away would not be convenient, t The council resolved to inform the Minister for Education that the site offered by the Takapuna Borough Council would be unsuitable, and to suggest that the most convenient position would be in the vicinity of Belmont v .. • ■
