Commander V. B. Cardwell, of H.M.S. Veronica, whose time has expired on the New Zealand station, left by the Main Trunk expressl last evening, en route to England. The warship is now in command of Commander P. Raymond, of London, and formerly of Southland, /arrived at Auckland by the Tainui on Saturday on a six months' visit to New Zealand friends. He has been actively interested in British politics since leaving the Dominion, having contested the Carlisle seat in the Conservative interest, and is at present vicechairman of the Southern Irish Lovahst Relief Association. He remains in Auckland for a few days before proceeding south, and is at the Star Hotel.
