Four-in-Hand.—The drive going _ south on the Tainui reef at the intermediate level has teen extended 12ft., making a total of 172 ft. . The reef has averaged Ift. wide, and for the last 9ft. the quartz has given regular prospects by pounding and washing, the best tests being obtained near , the back of the djivq. It was difficult to see gold in the stone owing to the ore being of ft rusty oxidised nature. No. 1 level has b eel * cleaned out to the face of the drive, going south, on the Cuirassier reef, with a view of driving further south on the latter reef. Preparations are also in progress ' for testing the Pour-in Hand reef abovo No. 1 level opposite to where the rich ; patch was obtained in the Cuirassier reef. Zeohan.The drive on No. _ 8 branch reef has been extended 4ft., making. & total of 58ft. from the main crosscut. Free gold continues to be seen associated ; with silver Bain hide and fin© grained galena. Glenisla.—The crosscut at No. 1 level has reached the footwall of the lode, which proved to bo lift, wide, with a. distinct dip to the westward; The excavations for the chamber have been completed* and the open-, ing securely timbered . The of sinking the winze is now under weigh, and . a depth of . Eft., has already. • been accomplished. Here a vein of country rock occurs in about the centre of tlie lode and • this :is .' being used as -a "dig" to facilitate sinking.; Cuts will be put into the lode tit intervals on both sides of the winze as depth is attained. Tests of ore samples taken in Sffc. sectiona across' 'the loda show that the centre of tho lode contains the best values. The single stone contained > carbonate of manganese, which is a good indication. ■ ' , v 1 New Waiotahi.— driving has been done on the reef below the level during the past weekj work being confined to sinking at both ends in •: readiness for stoping. At • the seaward end : a few. pieces of nicked stone were met with, and at the;, hillward end, a : few colours of gold . were seen ;in the hangingwall portion. Stopr.ng in both directions will be under way this week. :
