WORKING HOURS IN SHOPS.
Sir,—l would liko to draw attention to the proposed alteration in working hours for shop assistants, viz., to leave work at 8.30 o'clock on Friday night, instead of 9 o'clock as now, and or Saturday to work until 1 o'clock instead of 12.30. The new order will bring lunch time to 2 o'clock and later for those travelling by boat or train, and the extra half hour given on Friday night can bo of little use to anybody. To boat-catchers it will mean that they must hang about town for a whole hour in many cases. I, like many others, have young daughters working in town, and I strongly object to this wi*y of lolling time. April 5, 1924. A Mother.
