WELLINGTON'S PORT TRADE

RETURNS FOR PAST YEAR. [BIT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday. Tho position of the Port of Wellington as reviewed by the Chamber of Commerce is disclosed in the following figures in the chamber's annual review relating to inwards shipping, overseas and coastal :— Wellington.— vessels, 2,986,743 tons. Auckland—7962 vessels, 2,134,918 tons. Lyttelton.— vessels, 1,850,219 tons. Dunedin, 545 vessels, 916,000 tons. The totals of overseas shipping entering and leaving New Zealand for 1923 were as follows:lnwards, 663 vessels, 2,111,879 tons; outwards, 646 vessel, 2,060,502 tons. The tonnage for 1923, both inwards and outwards, the report states, constitutes a record.
