(Received 5.5 p.m.)
Reuter. SINGAPORE. Mar. 19. The Singapore Government has. officially announced that the Imperial Government has abandoned the Singapore scheme in accordance with the reiterated foreign policy of the local Government, which is aiming at disarmament, retaining the power to resume the scheme should
circumstances require it. The Imperial Government would reimburse the contracting company for the loss of revenue.
The present position is that 32 fuel tanks are completed and filled. Two others at the Boosting station are completed and the foundations of 20 others in the vicinity of the proposed base are laid. .Material is ready for the erection of the other large works which were to have been undertaken. Though the colony voted a large sum of money recently for road construction at the base site, local opinion is not greatly concerned, as local expenditure has been small.
