WAIMATJKU. Thursday.
Keenest interest was evinced in the meeting held last evening to consider the advisability of changing the name of Waimauku. The Coronation Hall was packed. Mr. F. Summers presided. Mr. P. Bell, originator of the proposal, addressed the meeting. His principal arguments in favour of a change of name were the mistakes now made, postal and telegraphic matter and produce and goods being inadvertently forwarded to other stations with similar sounding names.
Messrs. Povey and Jeffries supported Mr. Bell, the former producing an important business letter that had been redirected by the writer. Mr. Norton said that if "Kaipara line" was added to the superscription it would minimise the mistakes. On a vote being taken, the retention of the name " Waimauku " was carried by an' overwhelming majority. A recommendation is to be made to the effect that " Waimauku Line," be part of the superscription of correspondence addressed to the district. Mr. Bartlfltt, president of the Progressive League, said that the old nam© was to be retained. For years Waimauku had, as it were, lain dormant. Now it was coming into its own it would be a pity for it to lose its identity. Progress was being made, and the name of Waimauku was before the public. He said that thanks were due to the New Zealand Hkrald for its excellent reports of tho district's activities.
