RESTRICTION OF RENT.
BILL TO EXTEND CONTROL. SAFEGUARDS OF TENANCY. Router. LONDON, Feb. 22. The House of Commons, by 248 votes to 101, carried the second reading of a private member's Rent Restriction Bill, which provides for the continuance of control till 1928, and that the tenant can be dispossessed only if the landlord wants the house for himself. It also reduces the permissible increase of rent from 40 to 25 per cent. Mr. John Wheatley, Minister for Health, announced that the Government approved the proposals in the Bill, but did not accept any responsibility for them. •
