; REGATTA AND CARNIVAL. . v ATTRACTIVE RACING. ; AMUSEMENTS ASHOUE. ■ The regatta, and carnival promoted by the Devonport Yacht Club' was held at Devonport on Saturday. The attractions and side-shows =on Windsor Reserve and along the waterfront drew a big attend : ance ' of visitors from Auckland. The principal events . for . the - afternoon were the yacht and launch races, for' which large. entries .were, received. A fresh northerly breeze • was blowing- throughout the day, and some keen racing was witnessed'. During .the evening. a radio concert was given, and everything moved with carnival spirit. There was a bright set-tinggaily-decorated yachts and launches, and the hundreds of lanterns along the foreshore. The racing details are as follows: — THE launch EVENTS. * There was a misunderstanding in the race ' for ' launches owing to the publication of two different courses.' The ' competitors were: Romance. Oreti, Miss Alberta, and Muszletov. Miss Alberta was first away, and led till off the dock, where she was overtaken by Romance, the latter continuing her lead for the remainder of the race. Romance. and Miss Alberta followed the course appearing in the club's programme of events, while Muazletov and Oretai carried out the instructions handed to the press by the club for publication. As the matter now stands. Miss Alberta wins on the long course and Muzzletov on the short course. '..'"'' In an exhibition race for speed-boats, between Miss. Devonport and Don. over a short course mutually arranged by the competitors. Miss. Devonport was declared the winner. . THE KEEL YACHTS. The race for keel yachts brought out five competitors, which- were sent -away to a fair start. Wairiki and Alexa both " beat the gun," and were ordered to return and recross the line. Of, the others. Scout was first away, and next to her came Delville and' 'Speedwell. Delville gradually over-hauled-the leaders, and was in charge on' the close haul-down the harbour. Speedwell came next, . xnd then Wairiki. Scout, and Alexa in that order. When they returned to the h*rbour again, Delville .was still leading, but, in the meantime. Speedwell was passed by Wairiki. The finishing times were: Del?tile (sm). 4h 54m 20s; Wairiki (7m), 4h 55ii 30s; Speedwell (4m), 4h 56m 31s. Result: 'Wairiki, 1; Delville. 2; Speedwell, 3. Alexa and Scout did not complete the course. ■ : ■* THE CENTREBOARD BOATS. There were six competitors in the race for class 4' outers), Mistletoe leading the way over the line, closely followed by A waters, Starlight. Celox, Spray, , and Sadie. ' Starlight headed both Awatere and Mistletoe on the close haul-up the harbour, and-once in the lead she was-not overtaken. Sadie occupied second 'position on the way out to Rangitoto Channel, and Awatere third. The finishing times were: Starlight (scr), 4h 59m 10s; Sadie (4m). Sh 6m 458; Awatere (9m), 5h 15m 3s. Result: Starlight. 1; 'Sadie, 2; Awatere, 3. Celox. Spray, and' Mistletoe gave up.. The start of the combined race for classes L and N was the best of the day, Venus, Marie. Mowai. and, Lorna crossing the line on level " terms, with the rest: of the. fleet only . a few lengths astern, except' Winifred and Warapu, which were both 15m late. Marie swept along at a great pace, closely, followed by Venus and Varuna 11., which soon replaced - Mowai and Lorna. The same order was kept as the boats rounded; North Head, and when they came in night again Marie was still in charge with Varuna and Venus a long way astern of her;, the same distance further away came Wairere. and the rest of the fleet. Colleen replaced Sea Sleigh as they made for the Stanley Bay mark, and' sailing - exceptionally well she established a good lead, which she maintained for the rest 'of, the'course.
