OBITUARY.
SIR JOHN TAVERN A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE, Dec. 18. Sir John Taverner collapsed when speaking at a bank-opening ceremony at Doncaster, and died in a few minutes. Sir John W. Taverner was born in Melbourne in 1854, and began public life as a member of the Shire Council of Swanhill a Murray River town in the Mallee wheat district of Victoria. He represented' the district in the Legislative Assembly in 1899-1904, and became a Minister in the Turner Government. He was Agent-General in London from 190412. '■ ■
