WANGANUI INDIGNANT.

WOOL SALES RESTRICTION. LIMITED TO 20,000 BALES. - > V RIVALRY BETWEEN PORTS. \ • r»t IJEIJtaHAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.) / WANGANUI, Saturday.: There is great indignation in this district at the mandate of the Wool Committee that Wanganui's next sale must be limited ;; to 20,000 1 balejj, ; despite the fact that growers have built up a catalogue of over 32,000 bales. ■ It is considered that the attempt to ' limit the allotment for Wanganui to 20,000 bales is a further attempt of Wellington to prevent the Wanganui port coming into its own. There is shrewd suspicion that, although the Wool Committee alleges that it is a matter of regulating the market, it is not so much a question of price as it is of the growing importance of Wanganui as a wool centre. Wellington has already offered 30,000 bales of wool against Wananni, 13,000, and another sale 'is to be held in Wellington within a fortnight. Th#» president of the New Zealand Farm pts' Union, Mr. W. J. Poison, claims that the Wool Committee has no mandate to interfere with the free marketing of our wool, and that it was never contemplated that the committee would continue to control prices at this period. Sir. Poison says that it is surprising to him that the Wool Committee is still in existence. Strong protests have been forwarded to the committee on the subject. If satisfactory arrangements are not made by the beginning of next week a meeting of farmers will be held at Wanganui on Wednesday with a view of making a protest to the Government.
