STOCKS AND SHARES.

There was a brisk tone on the Auckland sharemarket yesterday. In Government securities War Loans, 1941 and 1927, were available at £96 15s. and £98 6s respectively, no buyers offering. The 1933 issue was wanted at £96 10s. Soldiers' Bonds, quoted at £100 10s, were sought at £100 and Inscribed Stock in the same loan also had inquiry at the same figure. In banks a sale was recorded in Australasias at £13 Is. New Zealands (old issue) bad .-early inquiry at 51s 3d, holders askipg 51s 9d, while the new jssue. was quoted at 50s 6d, buyers offering 49s 9d. Unions of Australia sold at £14 17s, with further demand at £14 15s; sellers £14 18s. In insurances business was done in New Zealands at 295, and more were available at 29s 3d, buyers offering 28s 6d. South British, at 40s, were wanted at 38s. In gas Aucklands (con.) changed hands at 3e 4d, at which price more were wanted, sellers quoting 3s sd. In timber Kauris sold at 28s 6d. Miscellaneous lines remained practically unchanged at the previous day's quotations. In mining there was marked activity in Waihis as a result of the improved assay value in the mine. The market opened with sales at 28s 3d, rising to 295, and falling to 28s 6d, while at the second and third calls business was done at 28s, at which figure there was further inquiry, sellers asking 28e 3d. Grand Junctions changed hands at 4s 8d and 4s sd, .the closing quotations being sellers 4s 6d, buyers 4s 3d. The following sales took placeßank of Australasia, £13 Is; Union Bank of Australia, £14 17s; New Zealand Insurance, 28s; Auckland Gas (con.), 3s 4d; Kauri Timbfr, 28s 6d; Waihi, 28s 3d,, 28s 6d, 295, 28s 9d, LBs fid, 28a: Grand Junction, 4s Bd, 4s sd.
