OLD MASTER DESTROYED
BURNED IN HOUSE FIRE.
VALUED AT OVER £20,000.
A. and N.Z. LONDON, Nov. 20. Two years ago Sir Robert Thomas, a former M.P., when passing a second-hand picture shop in London, was struck by the expression on a child's face in a dilapidated picture. lie bought the picture for £25 and had it. cleaned.
A few days . later the seller tried to buy it back for £50. Sir Robert Thomas refused to sell avid had the picture examined by experts, who reported it was Raphael's ** Madonna del Pozzo,' J worth between £20,000 and £60,000.
Las*, night th» picture was destroyed by a fire which destroyed practically the whole of the contents of Sir Robert Thomas' residence at Holyhead.
