UPPER QUEEN ST. BLOCK.
NEW SHOPS AND OFFICES.
Operations are progressing rapidly in the erection of a, two-storey block of shops and offices in Upper Queen Street, for the Auckland Investments. Limited. These premises are being built in reinforced con* crete, the, floors and staircases being also of this material. The ground floor, with a frontage of 94ft. to Queen : StTeet, will consist of five shops of the latest design, the fronts, of which will be of plate glass and oak, surrounded by marble. The first floor, which will be divided into offices, will be finished throughout with white cement. This building adjoins the recently completed "Academy " building, aild when it is completed there will be a lino of shops from Karangahape Road' to Scotia Place, unbroken except for the two churches. At the rate that building is going on in Auckland, it will not be long before shops extend from Karangahape Road to the Town Hall. The architects for the new buildings are Messrs. Savage and Morran. The estimated cost is £9000.
