Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 9.20 p.m.) LONDON. Oct. 16.
Professor Spahlinger attended a meeting at the Ritz Hotel, which Baron Henri Rothschild organised to raise funds for the development of his treatment for tuberculosis. Professor Spahlinger said that Sir Stanley Birkin had given "£20.000 already, and £80,000 had been spent on experiments. It would be deplorable if the results of the work done were thrown away.
"It takes four years to complete tho processes," said- Professor Spahlinger, "but with the work already done, if I had 100 horses it would be possible to treat 3000 patients in 18 months and test the serum in every country of the world. I would then publish the formula, enabling the serum and vaccines to be produced anywhere. I am anxious that no serum hurriedly . and ineffectually prepared should be put on the market."
Sir Stanley Birkin is a Nottinghamshire baronet. His father, the first baronet, •was a wealthy lace-manufacturer, the founder of the firm of T. I. Birkin and Company. Baron Henri Rothschild belongs to the French branch of the Rothscliild family, and is a qualified doctor.
