THE DEVONPORT CIRCUIT.

The quarterly meeting of the Devonport circuit of the Methodist Church was held at Stanley Bay, the Rev. J. Ernest Parsons presiding.

The chairman reported an increase oi eight members for the year. Despite the bad weather and sickness during ' the quarter, the balance-sheet showed a credit of £2. Bazaars held at Devonport and Stanley Bay, in aid of the trust properties in the circuit, had been most successful. The Stanley Bay Ladies' Guild had contributed £30 to the parsonage refurnishing scheme. Excellent reports came from the Sunday schools. The systematic canvass of the district, carried through under the Children's ' Year programme, had resulted in nearly one hundred scholars being added to the three schools', in the circuit. Arrangements were -made for the -church anniversary at Stanley Bay, on October 28, iand Sunday school anniversary at Devonport, on November 4. The name of Mr. Hubert Earner was added to tho plan as & local preacher on trial. Mr. Parsons accepted a hearty and unanimous invitation to continue in the circuit a third year, many expressions of grateful appreciation of his work being made. Special reference was made, also, to the excellent service rendered by Mrs. Parsons among the children. Mr. E. 0. Chivers was appointed 'circuit representative to the Mount Albert Orphanage Committee, Messrs. A. W. Parker and E. 0. Chivers were appointed Synod representatives, with Messrs. E. J. Gillon. and R. J. Clark as substitutes.

FRANKLIN ROAD ANNIVERSARY. SERVICES IN CELEBRATION. The celebrations 'in connection with the Franklin Road Methodist Church were concluded last evening, when the annual social was held after the business meeting..'. . '< ■ ■;,.;:. The anniversary services -were held on Sunday. In the morning, the Rev. T. R. B. Woolloxall was tho preacher, in the afternoon the Rev. F. Copeland, and in the evening' the Rev. T. Coatsworth. Items from the "Messiah were ren-* 5 dered by the choir, assisted by an orchestra of 15 players, under the baton of Mr. W. E. Webb. Vocal and instrumental items were also given in the morning .by _ Mr. J. Littler, and Master F. Hoffey; in the afternoon by Miss G Brooke, Messrs. Geo. Pooro, Carl Whitmore, A. Simpson, and Hoffey; and in the evening Miss M. Williamson and •Mr. Percy Dimery.
