CORONATION CEREMONY.

QUEEN OF ONEHUNGA.

SUM OF £900 RAISED.

The ceremony of crowning. the carnival queen, Miss Ethel Pardington, took place last evening in the Foresters' Theatre Onehunga. , * The proceedings opened with the overture from "Maritana," by the Albert Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mr. G. H. Hardy. The following musical items were contributed: Bass solo, "Glorious Devon," Mr. A. Colledge; soprano solo, "Dainty Damosel," Miss L. Evans; tenor solo, "The Star," Mr. .Arthur H. Ripley; contralto solo, "Chanson de Elorian," Miss Jessie Bartlett; orchestra, "Waltz Zenona," Albert Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Ripley was pianlste. « • • ; . The crowning of the queen was a most spectacular ceremony, and was witnessed by a large audience. The queen conferred several "honours." The choir sang "Here's a Health Unto Her Majesty," and three cheers were given by the company. The grand procession descended! and the' programme concluded with the National Anthem. The amounts received from the- queen carnival are:—Yacht Club Queen (Miss E. Pardington), £371; Sports Queen (Miss P. Noon), £330; Scouts Queen (Miss Steane), £29; and subscriptions, made a total of £900 for the equipment of the children's playground in Jellicoe Park. The ceremony will be repeated this evening. ■
