STOCKS AND SHARES.

Business was fairly quiet yesterday on the Auckland sharomarket. In Government securities War Loans, 1938, changed hands at £97. The 1927 issue was the only other one sought, buyers quoting £97 10s, with no sellers. Inscribed Stock, 1927, had inquiry at £97 10s, and the 1938 issue , was wanted at £9G 15s, with sellers of the latter at £97 ss. Soldiers' Loan bonds had sellers at £101, buyers £100. Inscribed Stock in the same loan was offered at £100 153. In debenture stocks, Macky Logans sold at £102. In banks New Zealands were done at 573 3d, more being offered at the same price, buyers 575. Australasias were looked for at £13 5s and New South Wales at £37 5», no sellers quoting. Commercials (ord.) had demand at 35s 6d, sellers 375. Unions of Australia at £14 5s were wanted at £14, a rise of 2s on the part of buyers, compared with recent offers. In insurances Nationals were firmer, selling at 765, with more in demand at 74s and no further sellers. South British wore done at 37s 3d, late buyers 375, and sellers 38s. New Zealands at 29s were wanted at 28s 3d. There was sustained inquiry for Standards at 345, and no sellers. In gas Aucklands (paid up) sold at 265, and in timbers Kauris were done at 27s 7d. In miscellaneous lines the only sale was in New Zealand Home Builders at 14s lOd. In mining Waihis sold at 28s 6d, more being offered at that figure, buyers 283 3d. Grand Junctions had sellers at 8s 9d, buyers withdrawing after quoting at 8s 3d. For Moanataiads 3s 4d was offered, sellers 3s Bd. The following sales took place:—New Zealand War Loan, 1938, £97; Macky, Logan debentures, £102: Bank of New Zealand, 57s 3d; National Insurance, 755; South British, 37a 3d; Auckland Gas (paid up), 265; Kauri Timber, 27s 7d; New Zealand Home Builders, 14a lOd; Waihi, 28s 6d.
