DEATH OF CHINESE.
RUN OVER BY MOTOR-CAR.
EVIDENCE BY TAXI-DRIVER.
The death of a Chinese aa the result of a collision between a bicycle he was riding and a motor-car on March 10, was the subject of an inquest held before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., yesterday afternoon. The accident occurred near the Mangere Bridge, the victim being Chong Kwei Kee. Sergeant Flanagan represented the police, Mr. Johnstone appeared for the friends of deceased, and Mr. Ziman for the driver of the motor-car. Henry John Corrigan, taxi-driver, stated that he was driving along the road at about 8 p.m. with two passengers, when he observed another motor-car approaching. He was travelling at about 12 miles an hour, but immediately slowed down! to 10 miles, and dimmed his headlights. . The other car, however, failed to follow suit and dim its- lights. On drawing near the other car he felt an impact, and stopping his car found deceased lying in the road with the bicycle close by. The latter appeared to have been run over. Witness !x>lieved he would have seen deceasd and his bicycle had the other car's lights been dimmed. As it was, he waa temporarily blinded by the other's headlights. Corroborative evidence was given by the two passengers. The driver of the other car was not present, and a warrant was issued for JuA apprehension. Further hearing was adjourned until Friday.
