The remarkable series of fatal accidents in Christchurch and the surrounding district during the past few weeks has occasioned a considerable amount of discussion among the public. A perusal of files since February 1 shows the following fatalities have occurred since the beginning of February, all suicides and sudden deaths from natural causes being excluded February 3. —Cook poisoning tragedy at North Beach; family of eight poisoned; three children died from the effects. February 9.—John Biddle Allison, aged 32, single, a farm hand employed at Cust, killed by lightning while harvesting. February 11. Three-year-old girl, daughter of William Watson, farmer, of Belfast, accidentally drowned in a concrete tub of water. February 13.Samuel Webb, aged 24, of Woodend, while cycling, collided with a motor-car, and received injuries which resulted in his death. February 16. —The body of an unknown man found in Omihi Creek. February 20.—Albert Cyril Price, aged 30, single, died from injuries to his head caused by striking a piece of iron projecting from a verandah. February 27. Clarence Vivian McHardie, telegraphist, accidentally drowned near Ashburfcon. March Miss Emily Brimicombe, aged 19, single, died under an anaesthetic. March B—Edward Kenneth Manttan, aged 22, single, was killed in & motorcar accident near Kaiapoi. March B.—Roy Thorn, aged 15, drowned near Waddington. March Robert McMillan, of Halswell, well-known owner of trotting horses, killed at a level crossing near Hornby Railway Station. March 10.Miss Amy Fifield, aged 50, a school teacher, of Lismore, killed through falling from a train at the Heathcote end of the Lyttelton Tunnel. March 16.—Setton Stewart Kyle, _ aged 17 died from injuries received in a cricket match. March 17.— body of Albert Raymond Rashley, aged 18, assistant purser on the Wahine, found on tho rocks at Sumner. March Michael George Riordan, cyclist, died as a result of injuries received through a collision with a train. Mach Frederick Edward Audibet died in the Christchurch Hospital of pneumonia following the effects of having taken poison by mistake. March 19.—Ronald Hales, aged 34, married, killed in a motor collision. March Harry Hopkinson, head miller at Messrs Wood Bros.' flour mill, killed through being caught in rope belting of machinery. Thus since February 3, 20 people have met their deaths by misadventure.
