TAMAKI WEST CARNIVAL.
- ! THE FLORAL FETE. I The Tamaki West- beach carnival at- j St. Heliers and Kohimaraina was marred .1 by unfavourable weather yesterday, ; the j rain in the morning being particularly detrimental to the floral fete. The down-; j poor about 8 a.m. was sufficient to j destroy .the flowers and to deter exbifoi- > tors decorating cars and other vehicles. ! However, a ■ few competitors completed ] their decorations, and when the weather? cleared about, mid-dav. they were ready totake the ground. The : decorations were J very creditable despite the adverse condi- { tions. Prizes were awarded as follows: f Best decorated motor-car, Mrs. Captain j Dorling; horse-drawn vehicle, Mr. J. KUfoyle: ■■•; bicycle, Master Btorafield ; s child's toy, Master Stewart. There was'i keen competition in the motor "donkey" I race, which was' won by I. Andrew, \r.'-| Reeves being second. The /juvenile swimming sports at Kohimararaa, 'which *were to have taken place in the, morning, were postponed owing to the rain. : -' The carnival will; be 'continued to-day, when an exhibition of flowers, fruit, vegetables,; cooking; and needlework will beopened. In the evening, there i will be brilliant beach, illuminations. A special' ferry steamer will leave Auckland at 7.20 p.m.. so that excursionists may view the! scene from the water. Another feature will be hakas and native dances to be given by the- Orakei Maoris. ' . i ■■-•'•■■■■■■■-■■■■■■ — ■■'■ - I i ■■■-..' -'".-- :— =r■■■■■■;■ /..■■.■>■:■.::. J
