A RUNNING TAP.

Negligence was the cause of a fair amount of damage to the premises on the lower floor of the Lower Hutt Town Hall on Friday night and Saturday morning. It appears that the tap of the basin of the lavatory,; which is jointly used by the. Hutt Borough Council and the Hutt River Board, was allowed to run all night, and the water soon found its way into the shops beneath, flooding the buildings and doing a considerable amount Of damage to the stock. 3 Morrison and Cup- ■ ninghara. milliners and drapers, had a large amount, of ■ stock damaged, and ■ WestburyY cycle shop. was also deluged. In all, the loss is estimated at £150. The occurrence -was discovered by a resident about 7 a.m. on Saturday, who, when! passing by. noticed a stream of water vanning over the footpath.
