PRE-EXISTENCE.

Sir,—Referring to the remarks of the Rev. J. C. Fussell on the above subject in the Her.vld, might I be permitted to draw attention to tho fact that when appealed to John the Baptist denied that he was Elias, and that another reference speaks of John "coming in the spirit and power of Etias," which is a different thing from being that person. Also, had the Lord's teaching embraced a doctrine of pre-existence a golden opportunity w,as offered for declaring it when he spoke to Nicodemus of being born again. A knowledge of the ministry of angels and their influence in our thought life will explain what appears to be a recollection of a former life by the admission to the man's thought of something from the angel's memory. Such an explanation agrees with the facts of such experience, and lias the advantage of not endangering the doctrine of creation and practically every other doctrine of the church. Robert Strong.
