STOCKS AND SHARES.

"A considerable amount of business was transacted yesterday on the Auckland sharemarket, investment stocks being in good demand. There was firm inquiry for Government stocks at recent quotations, but no sales were effected. In banks there were sales of Commercials at 33s 6d and 34s 4d, late buyers offering 33s 6d without response from sellers. Nationals were wanted at £5 17s, sellers £5 19s. Business was done in New Zealand* at 56s 6d and 56s 9d, the closing quotations being sellers 56s 6d, buyers 565. Unions were sold at £13, other buyers offering £12 18s 6d, sellers £13. In insurances sales of Now Zoalauds took place at 27s 4d, other buyers offering 275, I sellers 27s 9d. South British were on offer at 395, buyers not quoting. In finance lines there were sales of Loan and Mercantile at £7,4. and £75, the closing quotations being sellers £78, buyers £71. In coals business was transacted in Taupiris at 17s 2d. In miscellaneous lines there was a .sale of Milne and Choyce debenture stock at 22s Od, and Wilsons Cement sold at 18s lOd. There was a sale of Farmers' Union Trading at 7s 6d. In mining business was done in Waihia at prices ranging from 28s to 27s 6d, other buyers offering 27s 3d, sellers 27s 9d. . Waihis forward (two months) sold at 28a 3d. Grand Junctions sold at 8s lOd, late buyers offering 8s 9d, sellers 9s.
