Sir Joseph Ward has been visiting Marlborongh as the guest of Mr. R. Mo.. Galium, M.P. r v *B> The Rev. R. B. S. Hammond, of 111 Sydney, joined the Main Trunk express for thei South at Frankton last night. Mr. G' G. Chisholm, the new clerk of the Court at Napier,, has arrived from Oamaru, and commenced his duties. Major R- E. Goddard, of London, who has been in Auckland for a few days, left for the South by the Main Trunk express last evening. . Dr. Paterson, of Timaru, has been appointed by the Canterbury College Board of Governors tutor to a 3tudy circle in v ■ sociology at TimaruMr. S. L. F- Free, S.M., of Masterton, is taking up relieving duties at the Wellington Magistrate's Court to enable arrears of business to be made up. Mr. J, B- Fielder, whc has been corresponding secretary to the' Hawke's Bay District Oddfellows, Manchester Unity, tor 40 years, has resigned his position. Mr. S. B. Dodge, late engineer to the Eastbourne- Borough Council, has bean appointed engineer to the Masterton Borough Council. He will take up his new duties on July 14. Mr: J- Wilfred Manning and Mr. W. S.* Wilson were admitted as solicitors of tha Supreme Court yesterday, by Mr. Justice Stringer, on the motion of Mr. A. E. Sexton and Mr. J. F. W. Dickson, respec- - tively. Mr. M. G. Irwin, who for the last six years has been headmaster of the Methven School, has received word from the Canterbury Education Boa,:d of his appointment as headmaster at Beckenham School, Christchurch. Mr. T. Brook, commissioner of Crown lands and chief surveyor at Invercargill, has received temporary appointment to a similar office at Wellington. The present commissioner for the Wellington district, Mr. G H. McOnre, retires on superannuation at the end of the present month.
