ARBUCKLE SENTENCED.
FOUR YEARS' DETENTION.
FALL DUE TO GAMBLING.

WELLINGTON. Friday. At the criminal sessions of the Supreme Court, John Arbuckle was sentenced to four years' reformative detention for embezzling the funds of the Miners' Federation.
The Judge .said the sentence might be revised hy the Prison? Board Upon hia convincing the board that none of the £2000 was "stowed away," and giving such information that might lead to the board recovering some portion of the money.
Arbuckle pleaded that ho drew insuffiI cient remuneration. He had to pay £3 ; 10s weekly for expenses and travelling ■and 10s fortnightly as dues, Jeaving an insufficient balance- to maintain | his wife and children. Hoping to | retrieve his position he used the first £100 for gambling and pot deeper in. I Finally he was irretrievably lost.
