AUCKLAND FISH SUPPLY.

MODERATE IN QUANTITY.

SCARCITY OF FLOUNDER.

The supply of fish is only moderate in Auckland at present. The City Council's trawler Simplon returned to the harbour on Thursday night with a fair catch. The council's other trawler, the Cowan, is at present undergoing overhaul, but it is expected she will be in commission again next week. The Countess, one of ban"ford's trawling fleet, has been operating on the West Coast lately, meeting with a fair measure of success. On both coasts, however, the rough weather in the early part of the week tended to diminish the hauls generally. The Simplon has now completed two trips in the gulf within tho space of six days, bringing to the Auckland market two good catches, totalling 14 tons. Flounder is scarce at present. The season for Auckland mullet, however, has just opened, and hapuka is commencing to show up now that the cold weather has set in.
