PAYMENT TO WATERSIDERS
MARINE COOKS AND STEWARDS.
Further amendments in regard to the order reducing the cost-of-living bonus ■were pronounced yesterday by the Arbitration Court.
As tho workers under the awards and industrial agreements relating to marine cooks and stewards, including those employed by coastal companies—the Northern Steamship Company, the Kaipara Steamship Company, and the Sellers-Allen Company —were not given the full amount of bonus awarded to other workers, the Court hits made a reduction of an amount proportionate to the bonuses granted. Tho order provides that as from Monday all rates of remuneration, whether payable as basic wages only or as basic wages with a bonus, paid to workers —except junior cooks and stewards and cadets — shall be reduced 16s 8d per month, or one penny per hour, and the rates paid to junior assistant-cooks and stewards and cadets reduced by 5s lOd per month, or id per hour. A separate order has been made in respect of t'fc ' Waterside Workers' industrial agreemei.. oy reason of the special circumstances, inasmuch as the present bonus of one penny is not one which is being paid by an order of the Court. The order provides that rates paid under this industrial agreement shall be reduced by 1-Jd per hour for such time as the employers continue to pay the present rates; but, should they cease to pay the bonus of one penny referred to, the reduction effected by this order shall be -Jd per hour in lieu of the lid per hour.
