IRONMASTERS ACTING.
REDUCTIONS IN CHARGES. [BX iHLEGRAPH. —I'ItKSS ASSOCIATION.] CHKISTCHUKCH. Friday At the annual meeting of tho Canterbury hranch of the New Zealand Ironmasters' Association tho question as to tho best action to adopt in connection with the genera] order of the Arbitration Court in reducing wages by 5s per week was considered. It was resolved to observo tho order, and reduce all award wages accordingly. The agricultural implement section had already anticipated tho reduction by reducing prices equivalent to a 10s 6d per week reduction in wages as from March 1, that being the commencement of the seasonable sales. The engineering section will reduce the hourly rate of charges for jobbing and open order work as from May 15. It is hoped this will react upon trade to the extent of increasing the amount of work offering, and thus extend employment to some at least, who are either on short time or entirely unemployed.
