HEALTH OF THE MAORIS.
NORTH AUCKLAND PROBLEM.
QUESTION OF HOSPITAL FEES.
Matters in connection with the health of the Maoris and the treatment of natives in North Auckland hospitals were discussed yesterday at a conference between the Minister for Health, the Hon. C. J. Parr, and the director of Maori hygiene, Dr. P. H. Buck, During his recent visit to the North the Minister received several deputations from hosp'tal boards. It was pointed out to the that, though the Maoris took advantage of the hospitals, it was often impossible, under thf" present conditions, to collect the fees for treatment or the levies on nativo lands toward the hospital rate. There had been a good deal of complaint in connection with the question, said Mr. Parr. Early in the session he intended to have a conference with his colleagues, the Minister for Native Affairs, (he health officers. Dr. P. H. Buck, and the Maori M.P.'s to see if some solution fair to all parties could be reached.
