ASSISTING THE NEEDY.
COLLECTION BY TRAVELLERS.
CLOTHES " DRIVE " TO FOLLOW.
Tho arrangements in connection with the commercial travellers' collection and clothes' drive next Friday and Saturday are being completed with tho thoroughness and enthusiasm that is so well-known a feature of every effort made by this body of men in aid of a worthy cause. Queen Street next Friday will resemble a huge fair, a place transformed from its ordinarv work-a-day aspect to one where there will be mirth and merriment throughout tho day, with side-shows, guessing competitions, doj vices of all kinds to put people in a good humour and encourage them to help on a work most deserving and necessary. That there is real need in the city cannot bo denied by anyone conversant with facts, and in KfyTtrring a generous sum of mpney to enable tho social workers to meet the increased hardships of winter, the travellers are supporting a most worthy cause. To make • the day tho success it well deserves to be. tho hearty co-operation of the public will be necessary, and there will be ammV opportunity for co-operation on linos wit.hin the reach of all, for in addition to the street collection, there will be a great clothes' drive on Saturday, the clothing to be. divided between Auckland's various benevolent organisations. Already pavels of clothing are arriving from country districts, the Northern Steamship Company having generously offered to carry all such parcels free of freight. The assistance of the Auckland Automobile Association, the Boy Scouts, and the carrying companies will also be given. Citizens can begin to help almost at once, by holding private clothes' drives on their own account, thus doing- away with any unnecessary delay when the travellers call next week. In the meantime, the latter wish it to be known that all authorised collectors will wear the of the association, so that no one may obtain parcels on false pretences.
