THE MELBOURNE MURDER.
ROSS FOUND GUILTY. JURY'S LONG DELIBERATION. LOCKED UP ALL NIGHT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Keceived 5.30 p.m.) A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. Feb. 25. The jury, after two retirements, found Colin Campbell Ross guilty of the murder of Alma Tirtschke, a 12-year-old girl, whose dead body was found in Gun Alley, off Little Collins Street, Melbourne, on December 31. Sentence of death was passed. When asked if he had anything to say, he shouted that he was innocent, that hi.' life had been sworn awaj by desperate people, and thai, he would appeal. Ross looked drawn and flushed, in marked contrast to his earlier appearance. Great crowds, without and within the Court, cheered and jeered the verdict. The jury retired en Friday, and W3S locked up all night. Counsel for the defence, in his address to the jury, said that Roes was a prejudged man. and attacked the character of the Crown witnesses.
