GAMING PROSECUTION.
POLICE CASE FAILS. [by telegra.ph.~own cobrespondmt.] ' HAMILTON, Mond&y. A case of interest to local sporting men \ was heard by Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., to-day, when Selby Robson (Mr. Walsher) was charged with frequenting Victoria Street for the purpose of betting.
After evidence had been heard, counsel asked for a dismissal of the charge jod. the ground that the- evidence was- too j flimsy for a conviction. Counsel ..tab-' ... mitted that before the police could jncjfew ■ on a charge of loitering they would Srst ; have to prove that defendant was a'bookmaker. ' << The magistrate said there was no eyi-. denes that defendant was in Victoria Street on December 27. • From ah tt : hibit produced it might possibly be .inferred that defendant was a bookmaker, but he was not charged with that'offence. The information was dismissed.
