INFLUENZA ON BOARD.

MILD CASES DURING TRIP. (BY TELEGIUPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

WELLINGTON, Monday.

The steamer Athenic arrived this morning from Southampton. The berthing of the vessel was delayed until late this afternoon, on account of an outbreak of influenza on board. The influenza is reported to be of a mild nature, about three days' duration, and prevalent among third-class passengers. The last case occurred on February 6. The vessel brought 300 immigrants. The Health Department's precautions include taking all temperatures before the customs and immigration officers are allowed on board. The vessel is to be fumigated. The Auckland agents of the Athenic, Messrs. L. D. Nathan and Company, Ltd., have received advice that the Auckland passengers by the vessel will leave Wellington at 2 p.m. to-day by a special train, whiclt- is due at Auckland at 7.60 a.m. to-morrow.
